Junior Fuel Oil Trader

We are looking for a motivated and commercially driven Junior Fuel Oil Trader to join our trading team in either Geneva or Dubai. This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious professional looking to build a career in physical fuel oil trading while working alongside experienced traders in a fast-paced international environment.

The successful candidate will support the trading desk in market analysis, trade execution, customer relationship management, and daily commercial activities while developing a strong understanding of global fuel oil markets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support senior traders in the execution and management of physical fuel oil trades,
  • Monitor global fuel oil market fundamentals, pricing, supply-demand dynamics, and industry developments,
  • Prepare daily market reports, pricing updates, and trading analysis,
  • Build and maintain relationships with suppliers, customers, brokers, and shipping counterparties,
  • Assist in negotiating commercial terms for purchase and sale contracts.
  • Coordinate with Operations, Risk, Finance, Legal, and Compliance teams to ensure smooth trade execution.
  • Monitor cargo movements and support post-trade activities where required.
  • Ensure all trading activities comply with internal policies and applicable regulations.
  • Maintain accurate trading records and documentation.
  • Identify new business opportunities and contribute to the growth of the trading portfolio.

Qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, Finance, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 1–3 years of hands-on experience in physical fuel oil trading within the European market is required.
  • Proven knowledge of the European fuel oil market and established exposure to European counterparties is essential.
  • Strong understanding of physical oil trading and market fundamentals.
  • Excellent analytical and numerical skills.
  • Commercial mindset with strong negotiation and communication abilities.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a dynamic trading environment.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Fluency in English is required; additional European languages are an advantage.
  • Experience with marine fuels, refined petroleum products, or bunker trading.
  • Understanding of shipping, logistics, and trade finance.
  • Experience working with international counterparties and cross-border transactions.
