Rüya Bayegan Receives Lifetime Achievement Award for Women’s Leadership in Energy

Rüya Bayegan, Group CEO of BGN, was recognized with the New Silk Road Lifetime Achievement Award for the Advancement of Women’s Leadership in the International Energy Markets.

The award was presented by ADNOC Trading CEO President Ahmad Bin Thalith, at the Gulf Intelligence Energy Markets Forum, in Fujairah, UAE, on 1 October 2024. The international selection committee awarded Mrs Bayegan based on her “leading strategies in global energy markets and innovative management approach.”

This prestigious award is annually presented to powerful global leaders contributing to the transformation of energy and trade routes across Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. Rüya Bayegan’s achievement marks an historic moment as she is the first recipient of the new lifetime achievement award.

Past winners of these awards include notable figures such as Arif Mahmood, a former senior executive at Petronas, Thomas Waymel, head of the trading arm of TotalEnergies and Sultan Al-Jaber, Group CEO of the UAE’s ADNOC.

Award Journey and Vision

Rüya Bayegan’s success is not only due to her strategic moves in energy trading which resulted in the creation of one of the largest LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) trading desks in the world. It’s also thanks to the investments made by BGN in diversifying its commodity trading portfolio to lower-carbon emitting products.

Under her leadership, the company has created new trading desks for LNG (liquefied natural gas) and SAF (sustainable aviation fuel), as well as working with traditional energy commodities. It is also studying a number of carbon removal potential projects.

Meanwhile, the recently created BGN Energy midstream and upstream investment unit is investing in upstream oil production and expects to generate significant renewables energy capacity by 2030.

Established in 2019, the New Silk Road CEO of the Year Awards honor leaders making a difference in energy trading. Fujairah, strategically located at the crossroads of Asia and the Middle East, has historical and modern significance in energy trade, making it a fitting location for the award ceremony.

Outstanding Leadership

Under Rüya Bayegan’s leadership, BGN has grown from a regional player to a global energy giant. With 22 locations including in strategic energy centers such as Dubai, Geneva, Houston, London, Rotterdam and Singapore, BGN businesses employ close to 750 people, gaining a prominent position on the global stage.

Rüya Bayegan is one of the most successful and respected leaders in the global energy and commodity trading sectors. With her innovative vision and dedication to growth, she has transformed BGN into a global player.

Rüya is also overseeing a growing pipeline of more than a dozen new ships that transport transition fuels such as liquid gas and ammonia to wherever they are most needed, always supporting the growing BGN trading platform.

Taking care of people has always been a priority for Rüya, who has initiated non-profit efforts such as employee family welfare, donations for hospitals and schools and earthquake relief support.
